Special Shipping Situation 2020

Special Shipping Situation For 2020

IS IT SAFE TO SHIP BIRDS
IN THE MIDST OF THE PANDEMIC CRISIS?
(Please read completely and think about the unique conditions
before you make the decision to buy birds.)

Everyone has to make the decision that is best for them, and I hope all of you give this serious thought.
HOWEVER, we have all either experienced package delivery delays, or read other people's problems.  These delays are across all carriers:  A----- packages are taking a week or more for delivery, even with Prime.  Personally, all AIR or EXPRESS packages have been on time, for my orders. It was the packages that were shipped via ground services were delayed.
*** Please, read to the end of this page!

#1)  DO YOU UNDERSTAND, in this year, there is a MUCH increased possibility of receiving a box with dead or injured birds?
This is not to be taken lightly!  I work with animals, large and small, every day here on the ranch.  I realize animals/birds are born/hatched, live and die.  I may shed a few tears of regret, but I continue with Life.
Can you?  Think about this, please.

#2)  DO YOU UNDERSTAND YOU WILL BE ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE BIRDS,  if you buy canaries from me, and arrange to have them shipped USPS?
(I DO NOT SHIP BY AIR.
We are 3+ hours, one way, from the nearest airport serviced by Delta.
I am unable to ship by air, no exceptions.)

#2) With the Covid-19 restrictions in place, I can not guarantee timely and safe deliveryThe USPS continues to guarantee delivery time, but does not guarantee safe delivery for live animals.
My flat rate shipping charge includes $15 for the specially designed shipping box.  The remaining charge is for the USPS postage.
  • If your USPS Priority Express box arrives safe but late, you will be sent a refund for the postage portion.
  • If your box arrives damaged, on time or late, I will refund the cost of the shipping box as my contribution to a bad situation , but cannot be held responsible for how the USPS treated the box in transit.
  • GENERALLY, even in the past,  I do not GUARANTEE safe arrival of all birds.
I do work very hard to make sure my little friends have a safe trip from my home to yours! (see #3 below)
I have shipped out, and received in, nearly 70+ boxes of canaries, with only two fatalities, over 10 years.   The one canary I received that died within 24 hours I did not receive money back from the seller.  I did refund the price of the canary I shipped that was DOA.
There are many things that could go wrong, that are out of my control.
Shipping temperatures and handling --- even accidents when you are taking birds out of box --- care upon placing in your cage, etc.

#3)  I will do MY PART to give my little friends a safe trip from my home to yours!
I have made a few RULES, differently than in years past, that I think will be helpful.
  • I will ship only healthy birds, of proper age to handle the stress in shipping.  This means I will begin shipping a few weeks later, beginning July 27th.
  • I will only ship on Mondays.  This gives the most time possible to be delivered before any delays on the weekends.
  • I will limit the number of birds per box.  The number depends upon sex, breed and temperament of the birds.
  • I will be even more watchful of weather conditions, along the entire shipping route.
I will not ship during extreme weather.
  • I will provide proper seed and veggies in the box.
I do not include actual water containers.
I have successfully shipped boxes with multiple birds across the USA, several times with a day of delay.  :)  It works pretty well!
#4)  Here is YOUR PART:
  • Before the bird arrives, have your cage ready, with food and water, and a bath.
Provide veggies/fruit that contain moisture, such as broccoli, apples, kale, etc.
This makes sure the birds get water, even if they don't recognize your water container immediately.
Canaries seem to LOVE/NEED a bath immediately after being in that box for a few days!  And they will take a drink if needed, as they clean up.
  • Arrange to pick up the box at your local post office, rather than wait for it to travel around in the mail carrier's truck until it arrives at  your door.
It also helps to give the local post office staff advance notice that a box of canaries will be arriving.
  • Most boxes will be available for pickup early in the day, most often before usual business hours.  PLEASE pickup the box ASAP!  This could be as early as 7 AM,
  • Make sure the post office will be open on day of expected delivery.
This means:  no holidays, no scheduled remodeling, power outages, etc.
  • Watch the weather forecast.  We want settled weather, neither too hot or too cold.
  • Talk to me!  By phone, if possible.  The better we communicate, the better it is for all of us. :)
#4)  I do not 'reserve' or 'hold' birds, generally.
I will be listing birds at various times over this summer and fall.

#5)  I will HAPPILY refer you to other breeders who may be in your area, or live closer to you for a shorter trip for the birds.
